National Pool Lifeguard Courses

The NPLQ qualification will teach you both the practical and theoretical skills to work as a lifeguard. This is a brilliant qualification to get you started in a career in the leisure industry and to work in a team environment. There is a minimum hourly requirement to achieve the qualification so 100% attendance is compulsory. Before the start of any course each candidate needs to meet the following requirements:

Be 16 years of age

Be able to meet the following basic fitness criteria:

• Jump/dive into deep water 
• Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds
• Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water
• Tread water for 30 seconds 
• Surface dive to the floor of the pool
• Climb out unaided without the ladder or steps and where the pool design permits
