Theatre Exchange: Citizens of Athens
During this workshop, the students explore what life was like in Ancient Greece. As the children experience some of the major battles and key decisions faced by the people of Athens, they learn about the importance of religion to the Athenians, the origins of democracy and discover what it meant to be a citizen of Athens. The students are all given the opportunity and are encouraged to express their own ideas in group discussions and then vote, to decide the course of History. Participants will see the effects of their decisions on the history of Athens and the modern world. Comparisons are drawn with the meaning of Citizenship in Britain today and the role we might play as responsible citizens.
